Project Overview

First of all, we need to define exactly what Einsteinium isn't meant to be. It's not meant to be a toolbar, a launcher, or a Deskbar replacement. It's not meant to be something the user interacts with directly. It will be a server daemon, working in the background at all times, gathering information and keeping a dynamic database for other programs to use. It's meant to be the core, the engine that drives the dynamic automation capabilities of future applications, like toolbars and launchers, or even the Deskbar itself.

The Einsteinium engine will need to do several things. For one thing, it has to be able to observe the system and identify events such as application launches, opened documents, opened folders, and hopefully URLs. The capability to detect application launches and record the application signature has already been demonstrated by Kagari, a partially intelligent launcher written by Okada Jun. (Download source code on the Links page.) The engine will also need to keep a dynamically updating database of the information it collects.
