DeskCD now works properly in BeOS R5!
Please download the latest version.

What is it?
DeskCD is a FlexiCD/QuickCD clone. It puts a CD icon into the Deskbar tray that lets you control basic CD functions by clicking on it, and lets you change the CD volume using a right-click menu.

What's coming
I'm looking into incorporating CDDB features in the "Track info" function.

Requirements
DeskCD requires BeOS R4.5 or higher to work, since it uses the "desklink" command to do its work. It's a simple set of shell scripts, so it should work on PPC platforms as well as Intel. If it doesn't, let me know.

New in version 0.7 Beta:

  • General cosmetic fixes
  • Changed the install to work around a BUG in R5

New in version 0.6 Beta:
  • New icon. Actually it's a set of icons that change depending on what the CD is doing:
    • Big red "M" shows when the CD volume is muted.
    • CD with two black bars shows CD is paused.
    • Plain CD shows CD is stopped, tray is empty or non-audio CD in the tray.
    • CD with triangle shape shows the CD is playing (This icon will remain if the CD has finished playing without being stopped, or has been manually ejected or stopped, it won't update itself dynamically. Sorry, it's just a shell script, I don't have much to work with.)
  • More intelligence:
    • Knows when the tray is empty.
    • Knows when the CD is non-audio.
    • Unmutes the CD with a single click on the icon.
    • Correctly changes the track and icon even when paused, stopped or muted.
    • Still remembers the previous CD volume level even after rebooting.
